How to park like an asshat, Cars and Coffee Edition. A whole bunch of us cheered when he left. Not only did he park like a dick, he apparently was being a dick to some other owners.

Kinja'd!!!

This Mercury was last repainted in 79 and still looks fresh! The owner's wife told me that it's the car he had in high school when they started dating. I love hearing stories like that!

Kinja'd!!!

Turn out wasn't so great, since the heat index was well over 100 and humidity so thick you needed gills to breathe.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This Duece reminded me of Gray Baskerville's, just in black. I'd love to have one.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Nice Chrysler parked next to me. The guy is in one of the Mopar clubs that I was thinking of joining but if they all act like he did, I'll stay Lone Wolf.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Beautiful Morris Minor, completely restored. First one I've ever seen in person and it's such a cool car. Look at the size of the head!

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

58 Dodge Coronet

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I love Espirits. This one looked showroom perfect.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Mustang II with a factory 302 - a good bit of motor for such a little car. I know they're ugly and Pinto-based but that's a lightweight car just begging to be drag raced.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

LT1 in the Elky

That's it. I have a few more detail shots of some of the cars if someone wants em. For now, I think I need to put something on my face for this sunburn....

Wow, that's a new low.

I can understand why someone with a nice car would be protective of their ride in a Wal-Mart lot or something. They should still use one space, and/or park at the back, or just stay home, but I "get" it in those situations.

This ignoramus thinks he and his car are somehow special AT A CAR SHOW. I.. I'm at a loss. And he was acting like a jerk in person? Well, I hope he sees the err in his ways and reforms himself. This must be his first show, and possibly his last. If he doesn't, and he returns to the next C&C, get me a folding chair and some popcorn.

P.S. that's not an LT1, it's its predecessor, the L98.

That's what possessed a lot of us off. I mean, my car isn't worth near that much but damn, we're at a car show not the grocery store, we know to make sure to not open our doors too far and all. Just a douche who thinks he's big shit cause he's got a mid life crisis mobile that NO ONE even looked at.

Eh. I worked there for 2 and a half months in February/March/April. Having grown up in West TN all my life and finally settling in Nashville, I respectfully disagree.

I will give you the Half Shell, Gus's Chicken, Central BBQ, and Texas de Brazil. But that's all you get, Memphis.

Eh, close enough on the engine. I'm obviously not a Chevy guy lol. What's the difference between L98 and LT 1? I didn't look that close at the Elky and just assumed.

Dude was acting like he was the most badass guy there. He was obviously suffering from mid-life crisis and a couple guys I talked to said he was telling folks he'd "thought about getting one of those, but the Porsche is so much better" and that he'd outrun them. Obviously doesn't know much about cars, since he said that to the TR6 owner....

I'm not a Mustang guy but I thought that car was badtotheass. It wasn't ratty like my 75, it just had a nice, unrestored, honest look to it. Sounded great too.

I loved em when I was a kid but I've since grown out of liking pretty much all Benzes. Not that they're bad cars, they're just not my thing. That was a really nice example of one though.

There's a lot more than that, including nice people and a lot of really cool history. I was stationed at Ft Campbell, so I spent a lot of time in Nashville and my mother has doctors at Vandy that she sees so been there for all that and I don't think it's the "OMG THIS IS WONDERFUL! UTOPIA!" that folks try to make it out to be. There's plenty of bullshit and corruption in both towns, it's kind of required for all of TN I think, but it's nothing that special. I'll admit I love Memphis because it's home, but I am hoping to move in the next few years, but it won't be to Nashville.

Try Chattanooga if Nashville isn't your speed. It's easily #2 in the state. I just don't do Memphis. It's flat, hot, dirty (if you aren't in some parts of downtown and Poplar Ave), and it's just dying. Nashville is booming like nobody's business.

We've got our issues too, no doubt. But even in the 3 years I've been here, I've seen tons of improvement. Only change I'd make would be to speed up the acquisition of a minor league stadium.

Our C&C is pretty hot too. A Veyron and an F40 show up from time to time. I've even talked to a guy (outside C&C) that has a 918 on order. I REALLY hope he brings it by.

There's areas that are dirty, but most aren't. I live in the Poplar corridor now, but I've lived all over this city and really the only dirty areas are Frayser, Whitehaven, and Hickory Hill. There's a lot of good stuff happening now, a lot of neighborhoods being revitalized and all that stuff. The big difference is that Willie Herenton isn't mayor anymore. The current mayor actually works with the county mayor and vice versa to try to draw buisnesses here and get the neighborhoods cleaned up. If those mayors had had the economy that Herenton did, I think we'd be booming. And it's finally dawning on the white flight, "suburbs are crime free!" people that if Memphis dies, so do their suburbs.

If I was gonna stay in TN, it'd be Knoxville. I really have no idea where I want to go, and I have to go back to school due to an injury forcing me out of my previous career before I can really decide where to go. No Atlanta, Nashville, California, or up north. Just want to go somewhere different just to experience somewhere else, not because I hate Memphis or Tennessee.

I took a road trip to Denver at the beginning of July with my Dad. Honestly, you couldn't go wrong with Denver, Boulder, or CO Springs for great places to live. Lots of stuff to do, great roads, and the people are genuinely nice.

Yeah, I don't expect a Mopar guy to know his Chevy engines to a tee. Without stickers, I couldn't tell a 340 from a 440, so there ya go. Beware, TMI incoming.

Both are multi-port fuel-injected, 350 cu. in./ 5.7L. The L98 was a.k.a. the TPI, for "Tuned Port Injection". It was the standard Corvette engine from '85 to '91, and optional in the Camaro & Firebird from '87-'92. It's easily spotted by its distinctive intake, with two pairs of "C"-shaped runners on each side:

Kinja'd!!!

The '90s LT1 (there was an LT-1 in '69-'70, and the '14 C7's engine is called LT1) was the first Chevy small-block to be considered "Generation II" since 1955. Bore spacing, bore, stroke, and bell housing were all unchanged, and many parts do interchange They even use the same throttle body design, mounted at the front of the intake:

Kinja'd!!!

The biggest differences are that A: the LT engines cooling system flows in a reverse pattern - the heads first, then the block, and B: they use a weirdo ignition system called Optispark. Instead of a cap-and-rotor style distributor (at the rear of the vee on Gen. I Chevy small blocks), it has an optical distributor on the front of the engine, between the block and the water pump. It was the standard 'Vette engine from '92-'96, and the Camaro/Firebird's sole V8 from '93-97. It also saw duty in the full-size B-body cars, Chevy Caprice and Impala SS, and Buick Roadmaster.

In the Corvette, it had plastic trim covers between the intake and the valve covers,:

Kinja'd!!!

but was relatively ugly in other cars such as the Camaro:

Kinja'd!!!

The LT1 was eventually replaced by the Generation II "LS" engines starting in the '97 C5 'Vette:

I'm not completely Chevy-dumb but apparently I am on this one. I didn't realize they used MPI on anything earlier than the LT1 so that's where the confusion was. I've worked on a few 350s with the throttle body injection and assumed they used that til they went to the LT1, though if I'd actually thought about it, I would've realized that with the LT not coming in until 92 it makes sense for there to be an MPI motor before then. Oh well, at least I know now so I won't sound like as much of an idiot again. One thing that gets on my nerves are "car guys" that like walk up to my car and say "I had a buddy that bought one just like that off the showroom floor!" when the motor in my car wasn't available in my car that year.

I've always tried to learn as much as I can about cars; to the extent where I can tell a 35 and 36 Ford apart from behind and useless stuff like that. I'm not completely against Chevy since my uncle is a Chevy guy with a LT-1 in his 35 Ford and when I was younger we built a 36 Chevy truck with a 305 in it. But I've always been deep down a Mopar guy.

BTW, easiest way to tell a "LA" engine (273/318/340/360) from a 440 is distributor location: in the back of the V like Chevy on the small blocks, up front kinda sideways on the 440.

Kinja'd!!!

I love seeing somewhat ordinary cars from the 80s kept clean and loved like that.

As for 991 guy:

"Sir, it's a Boxster." LMAO

I love that 88; it made me think of the Buick Lesabre we had when I was a kid. Especially those seats! They need to make em like that again. It's great to see something like that preserved and not donk-ed or turned into a derby car, etc. I think those will rise in value before too long since all the pre-72 cars are mostly bought up by now, leaving a lot of us younger guys to start fixing up the less desirable years.
